We are the Sierra Club's local voice for the nation's oldest and largest grassroots environmental organization. Our group has over 850 members and represents the northwest Michigan counties of Manistee, Wexford, Missaukee, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Antrim and Otsego.

Upcoming Events: See our calendar for more information!

  • May 10: Spring Wildflower Hike
  • May 17: Orchard Beach Trail and Lake Bluff Audubon House, Manistee
  • June 1: North Country Trail Hike

Movie Event: FLOW, May 18. The Charlevoix Democrats are holding a movie fundraiser on May 18 in Charlevoix. In addition to the movie "Sicko", we will be showing "FLOW: For Love of Water". As you may know, the film contains a segment on Michigan and Nestle, with some northern Michigan environmental activists taking part. Tickets are $20 and include a reception after the movie. Holly Wren Spaulding, a local water activist who appears in the movie, has agreed to attend. More information can be found here.

The Traverse Groups strongly supports AMERICA'S RED ROCK WILDERNESS ACT, which would designate roughly 9.4 million acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) public land in Utah as wilderness under the Wilderness Act of 1964. This would protect well-known landscapes near Arches, Canyonlands and Zion National Parks. Please click here to see how you can help.

The Michigan Chapter of the Sierra Club honored Crystal Mountain for its commitment to the environment. It presented Crystal with the White Pine Award, given to one non-member group or organization that has shown extraordinary dedication to protection of the environment. The Traverse Group of the Sierra Club, one of ten active groups in the state, nominated Crystal for the honor which is voted upon by the state’s Executive Committee. Find out more here.

Join our email list! We now have a group e-mail list for Traverse Group members.
