ATVs on Public Lands
Our Position: oppose
Bill Number: HB 4411
Sponsor: Rep. Joel Sheltrown
Legislative Session: 2009-10
This bill allows certain individuals to drive motorized All Terraine Vehicles (ATVs) on state lands that are usually off-limits to ATV users. Anyone over the age of 60, or with physical or mental disabilities, could drive ATVs in state game areas, state parks, state recreation areas, other areas controlled by the DNR. The Sierra Club opposes this bill for a variety of reasons, including: There are already designated trails for ATV use throughout the state; the DNR has no funds for enforcement; and ATVs do a tremendous amount of damage to sensitive ecosystems - not to mention the noise and pollution caused by ATVs.
Status
02/24/09 - referred to Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources Committee
