GLOBAL WARMING:
Can Michigan Meet the Challenge?
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!
Global warming and resulting climate chaos is the biggest
environmental, economic and public health threat our planet
has ever faced. Can Michigan rise to meet this challenge?
Three upcoming events will feature some of the world’s
top climate scientists from right here in Michigan who will
help answer that question. These scientists, many of whom
served on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, will
address issues including: the scientific evidence of global
warming and why it’s happening; the expected impacts
on Michigan’s industries (particularly agriculture);
and the policies Michigan must pursue address this global
challenge.

to phase out Detroit’s trash incinerator and Clean and

• Other start up projects in 2008 e.g. spendable Business
Incentive Coupon rewards for recyclers.
The new Clean and Green Business Model
• Uses the same DPW labor force and collection trucks

Talk on Mill Creek Revealed
Approximately 100 volunteers have
been studying Mill Creek for the past two years, examining
the insects and other creatures that live in the creek, surveying
the channel shape, monitoring the sediment in the water, measuring
flow and discharge rates, monitoring phosphate in the water,
measuring and mapping habitat and monitoring the extreme summer
temperatures. We will explain what this comprehensive study
reveals about the major problems that were identified
in the Mill Creek Subwatershed Management Plan: heavy nutrient
loads (especially phosphate) and other contaminants, "flashy"
flow rates, soil erosion and sedimentation.
Location: Dexter Township
Hall, 6880 Dexter-Pinckney Road. [This
talk will be repeated on December 11.]
