Do Just One Thing!

Sierra Club has endorsed more than 50 superb pro-environment candidates. Many of them are in extremely tight races and need our help to win. Sierra Club and our members can make a big difference in their campaign by doing "Just One Thing" for one candidate between now and November 2. Here the kinds of things that candidates need the most:

Volunteer to go door-to-door. Talking to people one-on-one is the most effective way to help a candidate. They "knock doors" every day, but they need help. Contact the candidate's campaign office and volunteer to knock doors for a few hours.

Distribute yard signs or campaign literature. Yard signs help a candidate get their name recognized. Or help with a "lit drop" where instead of knocking on doors, you simply leave a flier at the door.

Host a house party. A candidate's primary challenge is getting to know potential voters - so invite your friends to your house for a meal or a snack and invite the candidate. It's an easy way for the candidate to get to know people personally.

Participate in a phone bank. Candidates host phone banks at their campaign offices and make calls to voters in the district introducing people to their candidate.

Donate Money! Yes, you hate the idea of money in politics. But that's the way our system works. If a candidate doesn't have money (to buy ads, yard signs, fliers, phone time), they don't have a campaign and they won't win. Give what you can, and ask all your friends to donate as well. Collect checks from your friends and deliver them to the candidate at a fund raiser. They will love you forever!

Write a Letter to the Editor of your local paper. Candidates love it when supporters send a letter to their local paper telling others of your support.

Be a Sierra Club liaison to the Chapter office! Sierra Club needs volunteers in each endorsed candidate's district. You can help us determine what each candidate needs, keep us informed of events our members might be willing to attend, and more.
