Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the hike to sign in. Every effort will be made to start hikes at scheduled time. Please be prompt! A $1.00 donation to the Sierra Club is requested of each adult for every hike and outing. If carpooling, you should share travel costs with the driver. For outings that require reservations, please take into account that the leader is probably paying deposits out of his/her own pocket based upon the number of people who sign up. Trailhead on Hess Road about 1 ½ miles north of Grange Hall Road, ¼ west of I-75. We’ll do 6 miles on this narrow, twisty, hilly, forested trail while the bikes are absent. Moderate pace, but trail characteristics will make this a fairly rigorous hike, especially if there is snow cover. (Yak-Trax alert!) Call if weather is questionable. Join us for our 12th annual campout at the beautiful Two-Hearted River State Forest Campground on Lake Superior as we spend a few days hiking, canoeing the Two-Hearted River and enjoying the great outdoors. This Outing starts 5pm Sunday at the campground. We’ll car camp at the river mouth. Campsites are rustic with pit toilets and are first-come, first-served, although we’ll reserve a few early so look for the Sierra Club sign on a campsite. Monday we’ll canoe the Two Hearted River and Tuesday we’ll hike the North Country Trail. Canoe rentals available at Rainbow Lodge for around ($35) for two people. Bring your own food and gear and there will be a potluck dinner on Monday night. Gas and groceries available at Rainbow Lodge. This area of Lake Superior is known for great agate hunting and salmon fishing. Take County Road 500 north from M-123, a few miles west of Tahquamenon Falls State Park and follow the signs to the Rainbow Lodge (about 12miles). Go past Rainbow Lodge down the hill to the campground at the river mouth. Reservations required by August 10th. Campsites are from $15 per night, may be shared. Outings fee ($2).
