All outings are open to everyone – Sierrans and non-Sierrans.

ALL HIKERS AND OUTINGS PARTICIPANTS MUST SIGN A SIERRA CLUB LIABILITY WAIVER FORM AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH HIKE/OUTING.

Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by parent or adult guardian.

No pets unless outing is listed as dogs allowed or approved by the leader in advance.

ALWAYS CALL THE HIKE LEADER IN ADVANCE TO BE SURE THAT EVENT HAS NOT BEEN CANCELLED!!! Activities are cancelled occasionally.

CALLS ONLY, PLEASE, BETWEEN 9:00 A.M. & 9:00 P.M.

Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the hike to sign in. Every effort will be made to start hikes at scheduled time. Please be prompt!

A $1.00 donation to the Sierra Club is requested of each adult for every hike and outing.

If carpooling, you should share travel costs with the driver.

For outings that require reservations, please take into account that the leader is probably paying deposits out of his/her own pocket based upon the number of people who sign up. Please be considerate of this when reserving or cancelling.

RIVER IMPROVEMENT: From the middle of May to the end of September, usually on Wednesday afternoons or Saturdays, volunteers work on the South Branch of the Flint River, making it passable, reducing erosion and improving habitat. MAR 16 (SUN) HIKE 12:00 pm HIKE HOLDRIDGE LAKES MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL Difficult. Trailhead on Hess Road about 1 ½ miles north of Grange Hall Road, ¼ west of I-75. We’ll do 6 miles on this narrow, twisty, hilly, forested trail while the bikes are absent. Moderate pace, but trail characteristics will make this a fairly rigorous hike, especially if there is snow cover. (Yak-Trax alert!) Call if weather is questionable. For carpooling meet at 11:00 am in Bloomfield Hills behind the CVS pharmacy on the SE corner of Woodward & Square Lake Rd. (northeast end of lot) Optional restaurant stop after. From I-69 take M-24 north past restaurant alley to Old M21 (W. Wade in a stream or river in Genesee, Lapeer or other counties and catch the bottom dwelling bugs, they are the canaries in the cave and can tell us about the health of our rivers and streams. AUG 2 (SAT) 12:00 pm (date conditional) (3-4 hours) CANOE/KAYAK STURGEON RIVER, Difficult. You could wind up wet on this fast moving narrow and beautiful stretch of the Sturgeon River. This is the fastest river in the Lower Peninsula! Meet at the Sturgeon & Pigeon River Outfitters 4271 S. Aug 24 - 27 (SUN - WED) 5:00 pm Sunday CANOE & CAMP TWO-HEARTED RIVER CRUISE Moderate. 5pm Sunday. Join us for our 12th annual campout at the beautiful Two-Hearted River State Forest Campground on Lake Superior as we spend a few days hiking, canoeing the Two-Hearted River and enjoying the great outdoors. This Outing starts 5pm Sunday at the campground. We’ll car camp at the river mouth. Campsites are rustic with pit toilets and are first-come, first-served, although we’ll reserve a few early so look for the Sierra Club sign on a campsite. Monday we’ll canoe the Two Hearted River and Tuesday we’ll hike the North Country Trail. Canoe rentals available at Rainbow Lodge for around ($35) for two people. Bring your own food and gear and there will be a potluck dinner on Monday night. Gas and groceries available at Rainbow Lodge. This area of Lake Superior is known for great agate hunting and salmon fishing. Take County Road 500 north from M-123, a few miles west of Tahquamenon Falls State Park and follow the signs to the Rainbow Lodge (about 12miles). Go past Rainbow Lodge down the hill to the campground at the river mouth. Reservations required by August 10th. Campsites are from $15 per night, may be shared. Outings fee ($2). I-69 to Irish Rd Exit, north on Irish Rd. past Coldwater and past entrance to Richfield Park on your right, turn right into next drive (on east) This is fishing parking lot, and our starting point.
