Shopping for the Earth

Shopping for the Earth now offers you two ways you can help the earth with your regular shopping:

1. A mail-in order form for local stores. Click here for additional information.
2. NEW! Online ordering for national and some local stores, through the Great Lakes Scrip program.See below for details.

WIth both options, there is no additional cost to you. You get full face value for any gift cards you buy, and the Sierra Club receives a contribution on each of your purchases.

Through the Shopping for the Earth program, local Huron Valley Group members (and their friends & family!) have raised funds to successfully support land protection proposals that have allocated millions of dollars to protect land in our area.

Shopping for the Earth cards are great for:

1. Regular purchases like grocery shopping
2. Giving as gifts
3. Making online purchases

Online Ordering

Shopping for the Earth now offers gift cards from many national merchants like Amazon, iTunes, LL Bean, Land's End and many others including department stores, restaurants, office supply stores, hardware stores, movie theaters, airlines, hotels and other categories.

Some merchants in this program offer 15% or more to the Sierra Club for use of their cards so you can contribute substantially without your purchase costing any more than you would ordinarily pay.

Some local merchants are also included. This is in addition to the local merchants that participate in the mail-in program now.

Another plus: you can order and pay for the cards online!

To get started with online ordering:

1. Go to http://shopwithscrip.com
2. Create an account for yourself (see the sign-up box on the left side of the shopwithscrip page). Use DB88E96B2L234 for the enrollment code for Sierra Club-Huron Valley Group (HVG).
3. Once the account is created you should see that you are associated with HVG.
4. You will get an automatic e-mail from shopwithscrip that will confirm your account and provide some basic information.

Additional Details

To set up a list of favorite merchants and order cards:

1. Go to the Shop tab - near the top of the shopwithscrip page.
   Notes: under "Browse By Category" the "Online & Catalog" link will display those cards that can be used for online purchases-- they come with an PIN or certificate number. The "Reload Brands" link displays reloadable cards.
   The percentage listed next to each card is the percentage that HVG receives on your card purchases and reloads.
2. To order a card, click on it's link, then use "Add to cart" to order it or "Add to favorites" to add to your favorites list (you can view your favorites list by clicking the Favorites link near the top of the shopwithscrip page.
3. As soon as you order something a Checkout button will appear near the top of the page--you can change your order there if needed.

Pay for your order by either of these methods *:

1. Online using Presto Pay. With Presto Pay, your order will be processed immediately.

   To register, click "My Accounts" from within shopwithscrip; there will be a link to register for Presto Pay near the top of the page if you haven't already registered.
   
   There is a 39c fee for each transaction--less than the cost to mail a check. You can order as many cards from as many different vendors as you want on a single transaction.
   
2. By check made out to "Sierra Club - Huron Valley Group"
   Send to Ed Steinman, 621 5th St, Ann Arbor, 48103. Your order will be processed upon receipt of your check.

Please allow 10 business days after receipt of your payment (check or Presto Pay) to receive your cards although the time may be less. SInce Presto Pay is immediate your order will processed more quickly.

* The local merchants in the current mail-in program (Arbor Farms, Arbor Brewing, People's Food Co-op, Hiller, Kroger, Busch's, Produce Station, Whole Foods) are all posted on the shopwithscrip site, and you can place an order using shopwithscrip instead of using the paper order form. However, you can only pay by check since none of these merchants are offered by shopwithscrip. Please send a check without the paper order form to Ed Steinman to the address noted above. The order will usually be ready to go once the check is received thus shortening the delivery time to you.

Additional notes:
Border's: since the GL Scrip program gives a 9% discount for Border's instead of the 5% HVG now receives, it's better for HVG if you order Border's cards through Shopwithscrip.com. However, Border's will remain part of the mail-in program should you not want to sign up for Great Lakes Scrip.

Meijer is a separate program that will continue to work as it does now.
