(meetings) are a separate page. Sunday, April 27, 2008, 1pm: Earth Day Cleanup at Island Lake New date! (A week later than originally scheduled.) Come to the Island Lake State Park parking lot at 1pm and look for a bunch of really interesting people standing around. Dress for the weather. Bring gloves, pruning saws and a ready mind. One weekday, Spring, 2008, 7pm: Beginning Backpacking
If you have gear that others can try on, please feel free to bring it with you. Dont purchase any gear before this meeting! Then read below for the rest of the outing!
Sat.-Sun., Spring, 2008 Beginning Backpacking So you want to learn to backpack? Join us for an introduction to ultralite and solo backpacking. This 2-part outing begins with an information session described above. Meet at the First National Bank branch on Challis Rd. in Brighton, to try out backpacking equipment and learn about some of the new gear available. If you have gear that others can try on, please feel free to bring it with you. (Dont purchase any gear before this meeting!) The second part of this outing is a 4-5 mile overnight backpack trip at Pinckney Rec Area in Spring 2008. Park pass is required for entrance into Pinckney Rec., and campsite fees will be shared by participants. This outing (as always) is free and open to the public, although you will be asked to register and sign a Liability Waiver. See you there! Saturday June ??, 2008, 11am-2pm: Butterfly-Dragonfly Picnic Join us for a lovely day in the country for a picnic and a search for butterflies and dragonflies. Naturalists will assist with identification. We will
spend time combing the pond area on Its a perfect outing for the whole family. This outing (as always) is free and open to the public. Fri.-Sat.-Sun., June 27-28-29, 2008: Howell Balloonfest Spend a few hours grilling hotdogs, squeezing lemonade,
and telling people about the Sierra Club, all at the lovely Michigan
Challenge Balloonfest in Howell. Enjoy the company of other
fun people, and an unsurpassed view of balloon takeoffs, the Glow, and
the parachute team. For proof, click on the photo of some of our
hard workers! This is the one big fundraiser of our local group, and provides a huge percentage of our budget. Remarkably fun, many of us look forward to this event all year long. Free parking and entrance for volunteers signed up in advance. Saturday August ??, 2008, Noon: Zukey Lake Paddle Come paddle with us, and enjoy the summer breezes! We will meet at noon at the Huron Meadows Metropark "Cedar Ridge" River Picnic Area. (That's the entrance across from the main entrance for the Golf Course), then paddle to Zukey Lake Tavern. Once there, we can sit on the deck and enjoy food, friends and a view. We will do a car shuttle before we begin, so cars will be at Zukey Lake Tavern waiting for us. This outing (as always) is free and open to the public.
