ABOUT SIERRA CLUB OUTINGS

Sierra Club founder John Muir took people to the mountains in 1901 because he  knew that would convince them to save valuable wild places.  We still “explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth,”  through thousands of local, national, and international outings every year, activities that have helped shape wild areas conservation across the country.

Our outings are open to members and non-members. No fees are charged, except for expenses like park entry costs, camping fees or shared meals.  Most outings begin at the trailhead. Participants are required to sign a standard liability waiver. (You can call the Outings Department at 415-977-5528 for a print version.)  Sierra Club volunteers lead our outings. Check our calendar below - you'll find day hikes, wilderness outings, bicycling, cross-country skiing, bird-watching, and conservation-oriented walks. You will learn about local conservation efforts while enjoying the great outdoors.  Though we work to keep the lists below current, always contact the person listed for information, and see the Michigan Chapter's Local Groups webpages.
